The Anambra police command says it has killed two members of a kidnapping gang who shot two of its officers dead during a gun duel on Friday.
Aderemi Adeoye, the state commissioner of police, disclosed this to NAN in Awka, Anambra state capital, on Monday.
On December 29, the kidnapping gang was operating in Uga roundabout area of Aguata LGA of the state when a team of policemen attached to a motorcade but unaware of their presence, ran into them.
The officers were trying to clear the traffic gridlock, but the “armed kidnappers” who sensed danger, shot two of them dead and fled the scene after a gun duel.

Adeoye said a 51-year-old kidnap victim was rescued in the process and a Lexus Jeep was recovered.
The police commissioner said the command also recovered four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two pump action and 16 live cartridges, adding that the IEDs had been defused.
Adeoye said the manhunt for the assailants and every criminal element in the state would be intensified.

He stated the determination of the command to ensure the security of all, and also urged residents and holidaymakers to go about their lawful activities without fear.
