Police launch manhunt for abductors of ex-Imo traditional council chair

The police command in Imo has launched a manhunt for the gunmen who abducted Samuel Ohiri, former chairman of the council of traditional rulers in the state.

The monarch was kidnapped from his residence on Saturday morning in Orodo Mbaitoli LGA of Imo.

Ohiri is the traditional ruler of Orodo autonomous community in Mbaitoli LGA of the state. He served as the chairman of the state traditional rulers council during the administration of Rochas Okorocha, former governor of the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Henry Okoye, the spokesperson of the command, said Aboki Dunjuma, the commissioner of police, has deployed a special tactical squad to collaborate with the military to hunt down the kidnappers.

He said the police commissioner condemned the “dastardly act in totality and vows that no stone will be left unturned until Eze Ohiri is released and his Kidnappers brought to book”.

“The Imo state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Dunjuma, calls on the general public in particular the family and relatives of Eze Ohiri to remain calm as the command is on top of the situation and has taken affirmative investigating steps towards ensuring that the victim is rescued unhurt and his kidnappers are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement reads.

“More so, more police operatives have been deployed to the Mbaitoli axis for robust visibility patrol to forestall similar occurrences.

“In the wake of this ugly incident, the Commissioner of Police reaffirms the command’s steadfastness towards ensuring the maximum safety and security of all and sundry in Imo state.”

The police urged the public to furnish the command with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the abductors.
