The Jigawa police command says it has arrested 11 suspects for armed robbery and receipt of stolen property.
Lawan Shiisu, the state police public relations officer (PRO), said the suspects were arrested in Dutse, the state capital, on Friday.
Shiisu explained that the suspects were arrested after one Shauwal Kaila of Zai quarters in Dutse LGA reported to the police that some unknown criminals, armed with sticks, broke into his home at about 4 am and demanded money from him.
He told NAN that Kaila claimed that the suspects covered their faces with masks and stole two of his mobile phones valued at N33,000, a 25kg bag of rice, a plasma television, and a box containing wrappers.

Kaila also alleged that the suspects threatened to kill him if he did not cooperate.
The PRO said after receiving the report from Kaila, police detectives swung into action and based on intelligence, they arrested one of the suspects, a 20-year-old student at Jigawa state Polytechnic.
He said during the interrogation, the suspect claimed he is a 100 level student of social works and community development of the polytechnic and also named two other accomplices who were promptly arrested.

He said the two accomplices named four others who evaded arrest and were now at large.
“The suspects confessed that they used to sell stolen items whenever they robbed to one 28-year-old man in Kachako town in Takai LGA of Kano State,” Shiisu said.
“The suspects also mentioned a woman and her son, claiming that the woman sold the stolen rice on their behalf to another woman at Yalawa Mainoni also in Dutse. The police equally arrested them all.”
Meanwhile, Usman Gomna, Jigawa commissioner of police, directed the case to be transferred to the state criminal investigation department for further action.
