Okada riders have killed an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Lagos state.
The 46-year-old man, yet to be named, was said to have been killed by angry motorcycle riders in the Agege area of the state on Saturday morning.
The deceased had led a team of policemen to an accident scene at WEMCO junction by Mobil road, Agege when he was attacked.
Confirming the incident, Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesperson, said: “At about 0140hrs a distress call was received that a motorcycle rider ran into a trailer at WEMCO junction mobil road pen cinema Agege and died on the spot.

“Based on the report a patrol team was mobilized to the scene, on arrival, the team met a large number of motorcycle riders gathered.
“However the patrol team in the process of evacuating the truck away from the scene came under attack by the motorcycle riders who insisted on torching the truck.
“As a result, one ASP ‘m’ aged 46 years was injured on the head and he died on the spot while the truck driver escaped.”

He said the corpses had been evacuated to Mainland General Hospital Morgue, Yaba for autopsy.
The police spokesperson added that five suspects have been arrested and a manhunt has commenced for other fleeing suspects.
