Police officer ‘shoots self to death’ in Nasarawa

A police officer, identified as Dogara Akolo-Moses, has reportedly shot himself dead in Eggon LGA of Nasarawa state.

The officer, attached to the Mada police division in the state, was said to have entered a private room before taking his own life.

Nansel Ramhan, spokesperson for the Nasarawa state police command, confirmed the incident to TheCable on Wednesday, stating that it occurred on Tuesday.

Ramhan added that an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the act.

“The unfortunate incident happened yesterday,” he said. “The commissioner of police has ordered an investigation to unravel the cause of the incident.”

In May 2024, a customs officer also shot himself dead at his residence in Farm Centre Quarters, Kano.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Nigeria ranks 157th among countries with the highest suicide rates, with 3.5 suicides per 100,000 people.
