Police officers, air force personnel fight over drug suspect in Delta

Police and air force operatives fighting in Delta

Police officers and air force personnel engaged in fisticuffs — creating quite the scene in Delta state this week.

In a video posted on X on Wednesday, operatives of both security agencies could be seen exchanging blows, wrestling and brawling with the butts of their guns — as passersby jeered, cheered and filmed.

In an X post, Edafe Bright, Delta police spokesperson, said the incident occurred as police officers transported a man found with substances suspected to be codeine, Indian hemp, and Canadian loud.

He added that the air force personnel, who allegedly knew the suspect, intercepted the police officers and demanded his release.

“The policemen attached to QRS were on their way with a suspect found in possession of substances suspected to be codeine, Indian Hemp, Canadian loud,” the post reads.

“But the personnel of the air force who happen to know the suspect, intercepted and insisted that the policemen must release them before proceeding. Hence they attacked the policemen unprovoked.

“This issue is being attended. We recognise the cordial relationship we have with the Nigerian Air Force in Delta State.

“The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and the Air Force authorities are looking into the incident and putting measures in place to ensure that such a shameful event does not happen again.”
