The federal capital territory (FCT) police command says it has arrested a wanted “one chance kingpin”.
Haruna Garba, the FCT police commissioner, said Chukwudi Ezirike, the alleged kingpin, was apprehended on Wednesday.
“One chance” is a type of robbery in which unsuspecting passengers are lured into commercial vehicles whose occupants are robbers.
During a press briefing on Friday, Garba said Ezirike’s operational vehicle was recovered by the police.

“I wish to assure you that the FCT command under my leadership will do all that is humanly possible to prevent crime and criminality and when it does occur to detect it,” he said.
The commissioner said operatives at the Zuba division arrested one Mukhtar Usman following a distress call from residents.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of a 5-man gang and later led the police operatives to the arrest of two of his gang members namely; Abubakar Muhammed and Usman Mohammed in whose houses, two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and thirty-five (35) rounds of live ammunition were recovered,” he said.

“Suspects are cooperating with police authority to arrest the rest of the gang members.”
The police commissioner said the anti-kidnapping unit arrested Salisu Abdullahi, also known as Gwaska.
Garba said Gwaska is a “notorious kidnapper” who took an “active part in kidnapping activities” around the FCT.
He said one of Gwaska’s gang members was shot dead during the operation “while others fled”.

The police commissioner said 62 cases of male organ disappearance have been reported across different stations since September 21, 2023.
Garbi added that “51 suspects have been charged to court for giving false information and inciting public disturbance”.
