The Bauchi state police command has arrested a retired armourer in connection with the alleged threat to the life of Yakubu Dogara, former speaker of the house of representatives.
Dogara had said two police officers are conspiring with one Barau Joel Amos to take his life.
In a petition dated August 18 and addressed to Usman Baba, inspector-general of police (IGP), Dogara said Amos allegedly confessed to buying the rifles from the police officers with the intention of killing him.
The former speaker said Istifanus Bala Gambar, a lawyer, and Markus Musa, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Tafawa Balewa LGA, are also targeted in the alleged assassination plot.

“I am sure you are apprised of the matter since it involves looting of your armoury in Bauchi by the very officers who are entrusted with the safe custody of your arms and a constituent of mine, Barau Joel Amos, who sought to buy or has been buying assault rifles from the officers,” Dogara said in the petition.
Umar Sanda, the commissioner of police, told journalists on Sunday that the retired armourer was arrested over allegations of missing rifles from the command’s armoury.
Sanda said he has ordered the audit of the command’s armoury, adding that apart from the two rifles intercepted, a rifle has not been accounted for.

“We have expanded our investigations,” he said, adding that the arrested retired armoury officer left the service two years ago.
