Police ‘rescue’ abducted residents in Abuja

The federal capital territory (FCT) police command says it has rescued residents abducted by gunmen near Barracks bypass in Guzape-Abacha area of the city.

On Tuesday, some residents were abducted after gunmen invaded the community, leaving behind two vehicles at the scene of the incident.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the police “rescued a lawmaker identified as Shagala Samuel” at about 1:33 am on Thursday.

Makama said the lawmaker was released in Yelwa forest near Gbagalape village in Nyanya Mine area of Nasarawa state.

The publication noted that the feat was achieved by the joint effort of the police, Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilantes.

Makama added that the command also rescued another victim identified as Nsiyan Eyang, who was kidnapped near the hills in Nyanya area of Abuja on February 23.

Makama said the victim was released on Wednesday at about 8:30 pm.

The police assured residents that efforts were in place to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects, noting that the state criminal investigation Department (SCID) had taken over the investigation.

Olatunji Disu, the FCT commissioner of police, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies for immediate action.
