Police rescue abducted six-month-old baby in Niger

The Niger police command says a six-month-old baby stolen from his mother’s shop has been found near a drainage in Tafa LGA of the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Wasiu Abiodun, police spokesperson in the state, said the baby, identified as Chinedu Samson, was abducted from his mother’s shop at Kure market in Minna, on July 23.

Abiodun said the abductor abandoned the baby at Gauraka primary school in the Gauraka area of Tafa LGA.

“It could be recalled that on 23/07/2023, a baby of about six months old named Chinedu Samson was allegedly taken away by a yet-to-be-identified person from the mother’s shop at Kure market Minna, as reported by the mother at GRA division on 25/07/2023,” the statement reads.

“The case of abduction was immediately incidented and transferred to SCID Minna, while anti-kidnapping unit of the command swung into action, and commenced investigation with the aid of technical intelligence.

“Fortunately, today 26/07/2023 at about 1230hrs, due to sustained pressure and close monitoring, the baby was found abandoned at an erosion ditch, close to Gauraka primary school in the Gauraka area of Tafa LGA.

“The baby was taken to a nearby hospital for medical examination and confirmed to be in good health. He has been reunited with the family.”

The police spokesperson added that the command is making efforts to ensure the perpetrators of the offence are apprehended.
