The police command in Nasarawa state says its operatives have rescued two abducted students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ramhan Nansel, police spokesperson in Nasarawa, said the students were abducted on March 30.
“On March 30, at about 9:20pm, we received a distress call of an attack at a student lodge behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia,” the statement reads.
“During the attack, two students of the Federal University, Lafia, Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi, were abducted.

“Acting swiftly on the directive of Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division, Lafia, were mobilized to track down the perpetrators.”
Nansel said following technical intelligence, the rescue team discovered that the victims were held by their abductors in a forest behind the 500-housing unit along Doma road.
“The team engaged them in a gun duel in the forest, and the police firepower overwhelmed them, and they fled in different directions and abandoned the victims who were safely rescued,” the police spokesperson said.

He added that one suspect, Ibrahim Musa of Abuni village, Awe LGA of the state was arrested at the scene, noting that he had made a useful confession and is assisting the ongoing investigations.
Nansel, on behalf of the commissioner of police, appreciated men of the anti-kidnapping unit for their relentless efforts during the rescue operation.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime head-on and urged officers to remain steadfast in their mission to rid the state of criminal activities.
