Police rescue five kidnap victims chained in Katsina forest

The police command in Katsina says its operatives have rescued five kidnap victims from a forest in Kankara LGA of the state.

Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the command’s spokesperson, said the victims were abducted while travelling from Abuja to Zamfara on March 9.

He said a police patrol team rescued the victims on Monday from a forest in Katsina where they were chained.

“The rescued victims were travelling from Abuja to Zamfara on March 9 when they were kidnapped at Kushere village in Zamfara,” NAN quoted Sadiq-Aliyu as saying.

“The victims were taken to Katsina Forest and chained but were eventually rescued by our operatives.”

Sadiq-Aliyu added that the rescued victims are responding to medical treatment as efforts are being made to reunite them with their families.

The command spokesperson assured that the assailants would still be arrested.

In February, a gang of bandits abducted more than 50 persons who were escorting a bride to her matrimonial home along Damari town in Sabuwa LGA of Katsina.

A few days after the abduction, the assailants threatened to marry off the bride if she was not rescued.

On February 21, six people were killed by bandits in an attack on Faskari LGA of the state.
