Police rescue nine children abducted in Zamfara

The police command in Zamfara says it has rescued nine children abducted by bandits from Goran-Namaye community, in Maradun local government area of the state.

Yazid Abubakar, the command’s public relations officer, said the kids were abducted while on their way to fetch firewood from the bush.

“On 3rd June, 2023 at about 20:14hrs, information was received from the district head of Gora-Namaye village in Maradun that nine children comprising males and females, who were sent by their parents to fetch firewood in the bush, were intercepted and abducted by armed bandits.

“Receiving the report, the joint police and other security agencies mobilised to the scene and commenced search and rescue operation that led to rescue of the children.”

The police spokesperson said the command has reunited the victims with their families.

He added that the police are also on the trail of the kidnappers.

“Efforts are still on in tracing the hoodlums for prosecution,” Abubakar said.

On Saturday, bandits attacked two communities in the same local government, killing a number of residents.
