The Katsina police command says it has rescued seven victims of human trafficking following a raid on a hideout at Yankara village in Mai’adua LGA of the state.
Gambo Isah, police spokesperson in the state, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
Isah identified the victims as Success Oshoopkeme, Isaac Debora, Amoruwa Ade, James Rebecca, Emmanuel Godwin, Zainab Tijjani, and Taofik Olawale.
“In the course of investigation, victims stated that they were brought to the village by their agent, who, on sighting the police team, took to his heels and escaped with their GSM phones,” the police spokesman said.

“They further stated that they are on their route from Nigeria to Libya through the Niger Republic border.
“Investigation is ongoing. They will be handed over to NAPTIP office, Kano, for further investigation and arrest of the traffickers.”
In a separate development, the command said it repelled an attack by suspected bandits at Fadimawa, a village in Kurfi LGA of Katsina.
Isah said the attack occurred on January 27, adding that the gunmen attempted to steal some animals.

“DPO Kurfi led a team of policemen to the scene and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun duel,” the statement reads.
“The operational strategy and gallantry displayed by the team made them to overpower the hoodlums and recovered all the stolen animals. Many of the terrorists have escaped with bullet injuries.
“Search parties are still combing the nearby bushes with a view to arresting the hoodlums and/or recovering their dead bodies. Investigation is ongoing.”
