The Lagos police command says it has arrested a 22-year-old man for alleged child trafficking in the Surulere area of the state.

Benjamin Hundeyin, police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the arrest of the suspect on Monday.

The suspect, identified as Ayomide Fawehinmi, was said to have been rescued from a mob in the Empire area of Surulere after the security operatives attached to the division responded to a distress call.

He said investigations revealed that the suspect lured a boy from his mother’s shop and attempted to trick him to an unknown location.

He said the suspect had snatched an Itel Android phone from the boy to prevent him from communicating with his mother but was caught by a neighbour who raised an alarm.

“The suspect had already dispossessed the boy of an Itel Android phone to cut off communication with his mother,” he said.

“While the boy has been rescued unhurt and the phone recovered, investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s culpability.
