The police command in Rivers says three persons were burnt beyond recognition in a tanker explosion on Tuesday.
The petrol-laden tanker exploded on the Obiri-Ikwerre flyover, along the East-West road in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
The tanker was said to have tipped over and exploded while trying to navigate the roundabout.
Speaking with NAN, Grace Iringe-Koko, police spokesperson in Rivers, said three persons did not survive the accident.

“I can confirm that three persons perished after a tanker carrying petrol fell on a commercial vehicle at the Obiri Ikwerre flyover stretch of the East-West road,” Iringe-Koko, a superintendent of police, said.
“The commissioner of police, Tunji Disu, and I were on the ground earlier to assess the situation.”
The explosion comes about four weeks after tankers laden with petroleum products burst into flames on the East-West road in Eleme, Rivers state.

A tanker was said to have collided with a vehicle before bursting into flames, leading to a domino effect.
Over five persons were reportedly killed in the multiple explosions.
