The petrol-laden tanker exploded on the Obiri-Ikwerre flyover, along the East-West road in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

“I can confirm that three persons perished after a tanker carrying petrol fell on a commercial vehicle at the Obiri Ikwerre flyover stretch of the East-West road,” Iringe-Koko, a superintendent of police, said.

“The commissioner of police, Tunji Disu, and I were on the ground earlier to assess the situation.”

The explosion comes about four weeks after tankers laden with petroleum products burst into flames on the East-West road in Eleme, Rivers state.
