Police to Kano anti-graft chair: Stop seeking media attention, cooperate with us

Muhuyi Rimingado

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has asked Muhuyi Rimingado, chairman of the Kano state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), to cooperate with operatives and stop seeking media attention.

In a statement on Monday, Muyiwa Adejobi, force spokesperson, said police invited Rimingado concerning a petition against him contrary to claims that he was arrested.

“On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit received a petition against Mr. Muhuyi,” the statement reads.

“In accordance with standard investigative protocols, he was invited to engage with police officials as part of due process in addressing the matter.

“Given his role as a public servant and a respected individual within society, it is expected of Mr Muhuyi to cooperate with the police to ensure a proper investigation is carried out, rather than seeking to create media attention.

“Any assertions indicating that Mr. Magaji was arrested are unfounded and misleading.”

Police reportedly arrested Rimingado in Kano on Friday, but he was later granted bail on self-recognition.

He was asked to appear at the force headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

The reasons behind Rimingado’s arrest remain unclear, though reports suggest it may be connected to an ongoing trial of Bala Muhammad Inuwa, a former managing director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO).

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) criticised the arrest of Rimingado, arguing that it would hinder efforts to combat corruption.
