Police to probe death of man in Lagos canal

The Lagos police command says it will investigate the death of a young man in the Ipaja area of the state. 

The man was reportedly chased into a canal around federal bus stop on Wednesday.

Social media footage showed an elderly man removing the lifeless body from the canal.

The narrator in the clip claimed the man was pursued by some gunmen. He added that the victim was robbed of his belongings.

Responding to an X user who claimed to be a family friend, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson of the police command in Lagos, said the police is yet to receive a report of the incident.

He said the “area commander covering that entire axis is personally on it”.

“Since we saw this video, we have been making concerted efforts to verify this claim but nothing has turned up yet,” Hundeyin said.

“We have checked our records and no report has been made till now of this incident that the narrator explained what happened yesterday.

“Nonetheless, our investigation is ongoing. The Area Commander covering that entire axis is personally on it.

“Anyone with additional and useful information should please reach out to us. We will keep the public updated on our findings.”
