Police: We arrested 76 suspects for flying Russian flags during protest in Kano

The Kano state police command says 76 suspects were arrested for flying Russian flags during the #EndBadGovernance  protest.

The suspects, detained from across the state, were paraded at the command’s headquarters on Monday.

Salma Dogo, the state commissioner of police, said the command arrested 600 suspects for various offences including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, riot, theft, mischief, and arson during the protest.

“We have also arrested 150 suspects for violating curfew, 6 suspects linked to masterminding destruction and looting at the Kano State Printing Press,” he said.

“We have also arrested 76 suspects flying Russian flags, including a foreigner who is a tailor, and recovered two AK-47 rifles and other substantial properties.

“Similarly, we arrested two suspected kidnappers, five suspected armed robbers, eight suspected car thieves as well as recovered one Beretta pistol.

“Despite the challenges posed by the recent protest, it is important to highlight some of the achievements recorded by the police command in crime prevention, management, and control within the period under review.

“The command has remained resolute and steadfast in its duty to protect the lives and properties of all residents in Kano State.

“Through proactive policing strategies and community engagement, we have successfully achieved significant successes within the period under review, including the arrest of two suspected kidnappers, five suspected armed robbers, and eight suspected car thieves.

“Others include two human trafficking suspects, 23 suspected ‘Yan Daba’ (local gangs), one notorious drug dealer, and 13 trafficking victims.”

Dogo said that the suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
