The police command in Lagos says it has rescued a baby sold for N800,000 in the Shomolu area of the state.
On February 3, a housekeeper reportedly absconded with her employer’s infant in the early hours.
The maid, identified as Ruth, was later found in Ikorodu on the same day but without the child she absconded with.
Speaking about the incident on Monday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, said the baby was recovered at the market after officers launched a manhunt following reports of the child’s kidnap.

He said the police are still in pursuit of the buyer of the baby.
“In the early hours of Monday, the buyer abandoned the baby at Alade Market, Shomolu, because of intense manhunt and pressure from the police,” Hundeyin wrote on X.
“The baby was promptly rescued by the police. She has been handed over to her parents after they positively identified him.”
