The Lagos police command says one of its officers died after a duel with naval personnel in the Ojo area of the state.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, said the officer and his colleagues who were on patrol on Saturday, tried to impound the motorcycles of the naval officers who were dressed in mufti and were driving against traffic.

The spokesperson said the naval officers resisted arrest and engaged the police officers in fisticuffs.

He added that other naval officers arrived at the scene to support their colleagues.

Hundeyin said a police officer slumped during the fight and was later confirmed dead at a hospital in the area.

He added that some persons reported the incident to the Okokomaiko police station around 4.30pm on Saturday.

“Other naval personnel in uniform arrived at the scene and supported their colleague in the attack. While one inspector slumped and was unconscious, the naval officers absconded from the scene,” he said.
