Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday morning.
Abubakar, who alleged that the ruling party was dying, kept quiet about his next political move.
However, Nigerians have been commenting on his defection. Here are some Twitter reactions:
And Atiku said three years ago he will never return to the PDP.

I wish I can advise Alh Atiku. Leaving APC for PDP would end up rubbishing him. It's better to announce his exit from politics and carry the toga of National Stateman

Atiku once said APC was his last bus stop. Well, politicians will always be politicians.

In everything @atiku wrote in that party resignation letter it's the "God" part that struck me the most.
How these people easily mention God and at the same time rape His people is what intrigues me.AdvertisementAnd this same God will soon tell him to go back to PDP

Now that Atiku has left APC, let Buhari order EFCC to arrest him. Only APC guys are clean and innocent, Atiku is no longer a saint.
AdvertisementGoing after his companies alone won’t be enough.

Atiku has never really belonged to any political party in my opinion. He is like a rolling stone gathering (no)tickets to make him president. https://t.co/Ulm61Iafsk

While we're looking for gist upandan, Atiku has decamped to PDP.
The cycle continues and discussion about how "futures" take another turn

What will happen to the Articulate folks in APC on twitter ? they are going with him?
Lmaooooo

Atiku to PDP, Obanikoro to APC. But your favourite analysts are still swearing by political parties.
Abeg, don't let anyone deceive you with 'choose a side' rhetoric in 2019. The only real demarcation is between ordinary Nigerians and the political class.

"I will never contest for Presidency again." – @MBuhari (2011)
"I will not leave APC." – @atiku (2014)
If you took the former seriously & campaigned/voted for him, you cannot validly condemn the latter for leaving APC

I like a good fight. Atiku will bring it. Somehow his good fight in APCs primaries didn’t bring out the best in them. I pray it brings out the best in you all. We need to raise the bar and commit to it. We’ll be watching with keen interest.

Atiku used to be vice President and all we got from him were allegations from the EFCC for embezzlement after his tenure. What does he want to do now that he did not do in his 8 years in office.

BREAKING NEWS:
After 4 seasons with APC, in which he failed to get the club's striking role, Atiku have come out to say he won't be signing a new contract with the club.
We will bring you all the latest developments as they unfold.

@atiku I want to believe is not going back to his words/vomit. It is possible he is retiring from politics or he will be promoting another political party. Please Turaki clarify.

There is nothing you will say about @atiku that @MBuhari can be cleansed from
Thus be very careful so that you dont disgrace yourself here.

I think Nigerians can't be deceived by this 'political grifters' anymore.
Atiku defecting from the APC to the PDP is purely due to the fact his chances with the former as it concerns the 2019 Presidential Election are gruesomely slim.
Don't be conned by his frivolous grammers

Atiku will now have to slug it out with Sule Lamido and Dankwambo for PDP ticket.

@atiku I read your letter but disappointed that you are not categorical, since you are silent about your exist from active politics.

It's going to be a very busy transfer window.
Obanikoro has moved for a record breaking fee
Atiku is returning to his boyhood club. https://t.co/g6M4ig2cPZ— Ebube The Statesman (@akaebube) November 24, 2017
Atiku should have remained in the PDP and supported GEJ for a Second term. Maybe 2019 woulda been easier for him as PDP would have had the power of incumbency. Loyalty has its benefits
— Edmonton Harvey Specter (@oddy4real) November 24, 2017
People are funny. They want Atiku (Who wants to be President) to remain in the APC when it is sure that Buhari will be the APC candidate in 2019. Okay, what should Atiku stay there to do?
— Edmonton Harvey Specter (@oddy4real) November 24, 2017
If the country allowed independent candidacy, Atiku won't be jumping from party to party.

PDP will be making a huge mistake to accept Atiku back into the party, could actually cost us in 2019, we mustn’t allow such political Radicals in….. https://t.co/n0eSODZznG
