Concerned Democrats, a coalition of pro-democracy groups, says Nigeria has moved beyond the period where politicians can easily manipulate the populace.
The group was reacting to a statement by Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation, that President Tinubu and the political class would not cede power to the younger generation without a fight.
The former Rivers governor added that politicians often resort to extreme measures to win elections, while urging Nigerians to always safeguard their votes if they intend to achieve a semblance of credible leadership.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Ndubisi Nwogwu, the group’s convener, condemned what he described as Amaechi’s alleged attempts to incite unrest, warning politicians against using desperation to destabilise the country.

The coalition asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into Amaechi’s activities while he was in government.
The coalition said political influence should not be a shield against accountability.
The group added that Nigeria has moved beyond an era where politicians could manipulate public sentiment for personal gain, urging citizens to reject such incitements.

Highlighting Tinubu administration’s efforts in economic reforms, infrastructure, and security, the group called on Nigerians to support lawful governance and hold leaders accountable through democratic means rather than resorting to violence.
