POLL: Should Kanu be released on bail?

Hopes that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), would be released on bail did not receive a boost as President Muhammadu Buhari raised his own reservations at his first TV chat on Wednesday. Although Kanu has been granted bail by a court, the Department of State Services (DSS) has filed fresh charges, apparently to keep him on a “leash”.

Kanu, who is campaigning for the break-up of Nigeria and has been accused of making hate-filled and inciting speech on Radio Biafra, has become a popular figure among those who believe in his agitations, but Buhari says the offence he is charged with is very serious, meaning allowing him to go on bail is not in the interest of the country.

Buhari said: “And the one you’re calling Kanu, do you know he has two passports. One Nigeria, one British and he came to this country without using any passport. Do you know that he brought equipment into this country, sophisticated equipment, and was broadcasting for Radio Biafra. What kind of government do you want to have? He has been charged with treasonable felony, and I hope the court will listen to the case.”

What do you think? Should he be granted bail? Should he not? Please leave a vote and voice below – but we advise that you use cultured language in your contributions.
