The Bauchi government has declared a two-day holiday for all state-owned schools ahead of the gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shifted the elections from March 11 to 18.
NAN reports that Jamila Dahiru, commissioner for education in the state, announced in a statement on Wednesday, that the holiday follows the adjustment made to the date of the elections.
Dahiru said school activities should be suspended between Friday, the 17, and Monday, March 20.

She noted that school activities would continue on March 21.
“In view of the readjustment of the date for the gubernatorial elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Bauchi state ministry of education hereby declares a 2-day break ahead of the elections for all Day schools in the state,” the statement reads.
“Day schools are to be closed on Friday 17th and Monday 20th March 2023. School activities are to resume on Tuesday 21 March 2023.

“All boarding school students are to remain in their respective schools during the break.”
The commissioner wished all students and teachers smooth elections across the state.
