Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has alleged that the suspected thugs who stole the mace of the senate had “presidential backing”.
The mace – which is the symbol of authority at the senate – was taken away by “hoodlums” who came with Ovie Omo-Agege, senator from Delta state.
The senator of the All Progressives Congress (APC) committed the act about a week after he was suspended by the upper legislative chamber.
Writing via His Twitter handle, Fayose said those behind the act must be treated like coupists.

“Only thugs with presidential backing could have carried out that treasonable act and those involved must be treated like coupists (sic).”

Omo-Agege was later arrested by security operatives. The invasion has been condemned by both chambers of the national assembly.
