Power outage cripples Lagos airport — for over one hour

Flight operations came to a halt at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on Wednesday following a power outage.

NAN reports that the outage occurred at about 6:05pm and lasted for over one hour before it was restored.

The situation put the airport in total darkness, leaving airline officials, passengers stranded and unable to proceed with the boarding process.

An official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) told NAN on condition of anonymity that the outage was caused by disruptions from the Ayobo and Ikeja transmission lines which supplies power to the facility.

“What happened was that there was intermittent disruption of power supply and it was unstable during the period it lasted but it was eventually restored,” the FAAN official said.

Herrientta Yakubu, general manager, corporate affairs, FAAN, confirmed the development and said power has been restored to the airport.
