A senior wildlife official on Thursday revealed that a crocodile killed and ate a pregnant woman on the shores of a lake in northeastern Uganda, making her the 30th victim of such attacks.
Dementilia Nabwire, 25 and two-month pregnant, was collecting firewood on the shores of Lake Kyoga with several other women on Wednesday when a crocodile jumped out of the water and pulled her into the lake.
According to Peter Ogwang, an official of the Ugandan Wildlife Authority, crocodile attacks on humans are on the increase because fish stocks in lakes have been decreasing.
“The woman, we have learnt, was killed by the crocodile,” Ogwang said.
