President Muhammadu Buhari will spend an additional week in London before returning to Nigeria, the presidency has said.
In a statement released late on Tuesday, Femi Adesina, presidential spokesperson, said the delay in Buhari’s return is at the “behest” of his dentist.
He said the president has an appointment with a specialist in five days’ time following an already-commenced procedure.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will be in London, United Kingdom, for an additional week, at the behest of his dentist, who has started attending to him,” the statement reads.

“The specialist requires to see the president in another five days for a procedure already commenced.”
President Buhari travelled to the UK on May 3 to attend the coronation of King Charles III.
The coronation ceremony which took place on May 6 was attended by leaders and dignitaries from across the world.

The Nigerian president also took part in a summit for presidents and heads of government of Commonwealth countries which was held on May 5.
Buhari was accompanied to the UK by Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation; Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs; Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture; and Babagana Monguno, national security adviser.
The president is expected to hand over power to President-elect Bola Tinubu on May 29.
Tinubu’s victory at the presidential poll is being challenged at the tribunal by Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
