Presidential candidates who didn’t sign peace accord ‘do not wish Nigeria well’

The National Democratic Front (NDF), a political group, says the presidential candidates who did not sign the peace accord do not wish Nigeria well.

The group, in a statement by Olanrwwaju Ayokunle, its spokesman, said those who did not enter the peace agreement are convinced that they would lose the election, “hence their decision to leave loopholes for their thugs to unleash violence on the electorates”.

Oby Ezekwesili , presidential candidate of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Donald Duke of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Omoyele Sowore of African Action Congress (AAC) and Kingsley Moghalu of Young Progressives Party (YPP), were also absent at the signing of the peace pact.

Abubakar, who was also absent at the event, had said he was not “formally invited but he signed the pact on Wednesday morning.

It called on the international community to prevail on the candidates not to precipitate any crisis in the event that they lost the elections.

It demanded that “an updated version of the accord should be presented to the candidates to guarantee their making undertakings not to foment trouble or threaten Nigeria’s democratic path with their fixation on violence.”
