The federal government has given the presidential taskforce on Apapa gridlock two more weeks to complete its assignment.
In a statement on Friday, Laolu Akande, senior special assistant to the vice-president on media and publicity, said members of the taskforce and other stakeholders had requested the extension.
He said Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who is head of the taskforce, approved the extension at a meeting at the presidential villa earlier in the week.
President Muhammadu Buhari had issued a directive for the clearing up of the gridlock and the restoration of law and order to Apapa and its environs within two weeks.

“We will extend the tenure of the taskforce by two weeks and we must all work together to be able to resolve all the issues raised here today,” the vice-president said.
“It will take both medium and long term solutions to ultimately enable us present to the users an efficient port environment for the economy and businesses to thrive.

It’s ironic that the 3 past 3 weeks following the directive have been the worst at Mile 2 axis. Since the soldiers left, the articulated vehicles have taken over the Mile 2 bridge. Residents now spend about 1hr just trying to navigate through. Please bring this to the attention of the relevant authorities.
The soldiers should be brought back. lastma and FRSC seem overwhelmed by it all. The articulated vehicles should ve cleared from the bridge or mive only between 1am to 4am
