Property worth millions of naira destroyed as fire guts warehouse in Lagos

Fire has razed a warehouse in Ikeja area of Lagos, destroying property and goods worth millions of naira.

In a statement, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, permanent secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said the incident took place on Sunday.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the warehouse belonging to Flux logistics company was used for storing alcoholic drinks, adding that the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a warehouse owned by Flux logistics company, used for storing Jameson Alcoholic drinks was ablaze,” he said.

“The cause of the inferno could not be immediately ascertained but the combined effort to put out the inferno by LRU and Lagos state fire and rescue service has been successful.

“The fire has been curtailed from spreading to adjoining factories under the supervision of PS Lasema at the scene.

“No injury was recorded at the scene of the incident but properties worth millions were damaged by the fire.”

He further said the dampening down exercise is ongoing at the warehouse, adding that a post-disaster assessment will be carried out on the site.

The incident comes days after a fire outbreak destroyed goods and properties worth millions at Akere auto parts market in the Olodi Apapa area of the state.
