Protesters demand Jigawa commissioner’s sack over ‘poor representation’

Protesters from Ringim LGA marched to the Jigawa government house to demand the sack of Muttaka Namadi, commissioner of agriculture, over “poor representation”.

The commissioner, who hails from Ringim LGA, was sworn in on July 12 by Umar Namadi, governor of Jigawa. 

The protesters besieged the government house in Dutse on Thursday. 

Abdullahi Muhammad, one of the organisers, said the protesters are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). 

“Since our commissioner, who is from our local government area, has refused to heed the governor’s instructions, we have no option than to demand his removal from the cabinet as our representative and another person appointed,” he said.

“Apart from the fact that he does not assist the people of his constituency, his actions have dampened our morale as party faithful in the area. As a party leader from our local government area, he has not inspired us.

“We have come here to formally lodge our complaints against the commissioner for Agriculture, Muttaka Namadi because of his poor representation of our community.

“We have spoken to him several times to carry everybody along in the area, but he turned a deaf ear to our demand.”

The protesters were received by Mustapha Makama, chief of staff to the governor; and Aminu Sani, chairman of the APC in the state.

Sani promised to deliver their message to the governor, adding that the party and the governor would rectify the situation.
