Protesters return to streets in Abuja, vow 10m march if FG fails to meet demands

The #EndBadGovernance protesters, on Saturday, returned to the streets of the federal capital territory (FCT) for a final procession.

The demonstrators converged at Lokogoma junction and processed to Galadimawa area of the nation’s capital with a banner bearing the inscription, “Nigerians are tired of bad leaders”.

On August 1, Nigerians began a 10-day nationwide protest against pervasive hardship in the country.

The protest, however, lost its steam in Abuja, Lagos and other parts of the country following a crackdown on marchers by security operatives.

The protest was hijacked and turned violent in some states, including Kano, Yobe, Borno, Gombe, and Kebbi.

Organisers of the protest had demanded the sack of Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP), over the alleged killing of protesters.

Speaking at the end of the march on Saturday, Abiodun Sanusi, a member of Take It Back Movement, said the group will lead a ten million people march if the federal government fails to meet their demands.

“Today is the final day of the 10 days of rage. However, while we will be leaving the streets today, we are promising the Nigerian government and President Tinubu that we are coming back, unless accede to our demands,” he said.

“This time we will be declaring a 10 million people march across Nigeria.”
