Some protesters demonstrating against the economic hardship in the country have vandalised the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state.
Since last week, youths across the country have taken to the streets in the #EndBadGovernance protest.
The demonstrations have led to widespread looting and vandalism of private and public property.
Addressing a press conference in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital, on Tuesday, Tony Okocha, caretaker committee chairman of the party in the state, wondered why the APC secretariat was targeted.

Okocha accused the state government of being behind the attack on its secretariat.
“Our secretariat was attacked yesterday, and they left us with a note that they are coming back again,” he said.
“We don’t know whether coming back again will be today or in the future. It was about 5:00 pm yesterday that they vandalised our secretariat complex.

“We preempted them because we knew, and we anticipated what they would do.
“We have information that they had been paid to destroy our party secretariat. And who is paying them? They are being paid and sponsored by the government of Rivers state.”
However, the Rivers government denied the allegation.
LEADERSHIP newspaper quoted Warisenibo Johnson, Rivers commissioner for information, saying that it is not in the character of the government to do such.

“We do not have such a tendency,” Johnson said.
