Russian flag being waved in Abuja by protesters
A trend of protesters waving foreign flags during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest has continued.
TheCable sighted protesters holding Russian flags near the Nyanya bridge, a suburb in Abuja, on Monday.
The trend was first observed in Kano, northern Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, on the first day of the protest.
On Saturday, the protesters defied a 24-hour curfew and marched through the city, urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to intervene in Nigeria.

Some of the youths told TheCable that they were leaning towards Russia because of a lack of trust in President Bola Tinubu’s motives.
“We are raising the Russian flag because we believe Tinubu is playing his imperial masters’ scripts — the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the United States of America,” Auwalu Idi, a protester, told TheCable.
On Sunday, more Russian flag carriers were also spotted in Kano.

Another group of protesters arrived in Jos, the Plateau capital, on the same day with Russian and Japanese flags, forcing protest organisers to conclude the march early.
Salman Garba, the state police commissioner, had told reporters that some of the youths were hiding under a programme organised by an unnamed politician in Kano.
