The Albino Foundation Africa (TAF Africa) has called for unity within Nigeria’s disability community ahead of the 2025 Global Disability Summit in Berlin.
Jake Epelle, the chief executive officer of TAF, spoke about the need for a coordinated approach to ensure impactful representation at the April 2-3 summit, which will be co-hosted by the International Disability Alliance from Germany and Jordan.
Epelle reiterated the importance of a unified voice to effectively advocate for the rights, inclusion, and aspirations of people with disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria. He warned that diverse opinions could dilute their message and urged a cohesive strategy.
The summit’s focus on securing commitments from governments and stakeholders on disability inclusion is crucial, he said.

He highlighted the need for Nigeria to actively participate in shaping these commitments, particularly in areas like accessibility, empowerment, and engagement with decision-makers.
The CEO explained that commitments made at the summit carry significant weight and should clearly outline specific priorities.
Epelle also urged Nigeria to elevate its global disability advocacy role by co-sponsoring future summits, following the example of countries like Kenya and Ghana.

He believes this would demonstrate Nigeria’s dedication to advancing PWD rights and strengthening inclusive policies.
TAF Africa’s call for unity comes as stakeholders across Nigeria prepare to align priorities and present a strong, cohesive stance on advancing the rights and welfare of PWDs at the global summit.
The event is expected to mobilise international efforts for disability inclusion.
