An association of women with auditory impairment, has urged the Taraba state government to fashion out more inclusive and accessible healthcare policies.
The group asked people in authority to also ensure adequate implementation of health plans.
The call was made in the course of an advocacy visit to the state ministry of women affairs and child development, to discuss problems confronting auditory-impaired women and girls as they try to access healthcare services in the state.
Hellen Beyioku-Alase, executive director of the association in her address, stated the challenges confronting people with disabilities (PWDs).

According to her, the issues include lack of trained sign language interpreters at health facilities and the poor attitude of some healthcare practitioners towards women with hearing impairment.
Lawan Garba, a permanent secretary, promised solutions to some of the issues raised.
He also promised to collaborate with the association in helping to promote the rights of women with hearing impairment because they are part of the vulnerable community.

The high point of the meeting was the presentation of policy briefs to the permanent secretary by the executive director of the association.
