Qatari government to build primary school for children orphaned by insurgency in Borno

The Qatari government says it will support Borno in the construction of a new primary school for children who lost their parents to the insurgency in the state.

Ali Bn Ghanem Al-Hajari, Qatari ambassador to Nigeria, spoke on Thursday, during a meeting with Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Al-Hajari said the Qatari government would support about 1,000 children orphaned due to the Boko Haram insurgency with a conducive learning environment.

During the visit, the Qatari ambassador laid the foundation for the construction of a new primary school in Maiduguri.

He said the school is to support the government’s initiative of providing education to victims of terrorism.

Zulum had in January laid a foundation stone for the building of an orphanage supported by the Qatar Charity Foundation.

The governor expressed appreciation to the Qatari government for the support, adding that he would ensure the orphans are provided with an enabling environment.

The ambassador was accompanied by Abdullah Alnuimi, his assistant and Hamid Abdou, country director of the Qatar Charity Foundation.
