Hope endures! Nigerians, especially members of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group, have chorused this phrase for many months, but today it has become real that, indeed, hope never fails.
News broke on Thursday morning that 21 of the 276 Chibok school girls were released by Boko Haram. But how many of the abducted girls still need to be rescued?
On April 14, 2014, Boko Haram abducted 276 girls from their dormitory at the Government Girsl Secondary School, Chibok. But some of the girls escaped in batches, and their total number was brought to 57.
With 57 of 276 out of Boko Haram’s grip, the number of missing girls stood at 219 by the end of 2015.

In May 2016, however, Amina Ali, one of the girls, was found and taken to Abuja, the federal capital territory, where she is currently being rehabilitated.
The release of Ali brings the tally of the missing girls to 218, until another 21 were released on Thursday.
In all, 79 girls have regained freedom over the past two and a half years, bringing the total number of girls left with Boko Haram to 197.
