An early morning rain on Tuesday destroyed two buildings and rendered residents homeless at Amuzi community in Obowo local government area of Imo.

The downpour, which started at about 3 am, lasted four hours and resulted in severe flooding of the area.

One of the flood victims, Amanze Ntiwuba, told NAN that he woke up early to ease himself and found that erosion had taken over his compound.

“When I saw that erosion had already taken over the place, I quickly ran away with my children and wife to save our lives,” he said.

He said the erosion pulled down the fence of his house and penetrated the main building.

The traditional chief of the community, Eze Anyawu, said the erosion was from a heavy gulley site which had been left unattended to in the area.

“We have written to government several times that the gulley erosion site is threatening our lives,” he said.
