La Liga side, Rayo Vallecano, have immortalised Wilfred Agbonavbare by renaming one of the gates leading to Estadio del Rayo Vallecano aka De Vallecas Teresa Rivero in honour of their fallen hero.
Agbonavbare, who played for the club between 1990 and 1996, lost the battle against cancer on Tuesday.
And in a show of appreciation for his contribution to the club currently 10th on the Primera division have renamed Stage Gate 1 to Gate Wilfred Agbonavbare.
After an extraordinary meeting, the board of directors of the club “decided unanimously to keep alive the memory of Wilfred in our memories” with this gesture.

The club also used the opportunity to thank, on behalf of the family of Agbonavbare, “the countless signs of affection that have been coming to Club along a sad day for everyone”.
The late goalkeeper was buried in Spain with his children Wilson and Wintia in attendance among other dignitaries.
