Referee rant: UEFA charge Buffon

European football governing body, UEFA has charged Juventus goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon for his expletive-laden rant at referee Michael Oliver during and after the controversial Champions League Quarter final second leg encounter against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu in Spain.

The case instituted against the 40-year old Italian, according to UEFA, relates to “general principles of conduct”, following his dismissal earned for confronting the referee after Madrid was awarded the decisive stoppage-time penalty, and many media rants after the game.

Among other words, Buffon described English referee, Oliver, as having “a garbage can” instead of a heart after awarding the controversial 93rd minute penalty to  Los Blancos which denied Juve the chance of extra time, and eliminated the Italian champions.

UEFA’s disciplinary panel will reveal its judgment on the case on May 31.
