Remi Tinubu visits Turai Yar’Adua in Abuja over mother-in-law’s death

Oluremi Tinubu and former first lady Turai Yar'Adua during the condolence visit

Oluremi Tinubu, the first lady, has paid a condolence visit to Turai Yar’Adua, wife of the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, over the death of her mother-in-law, Dada Yar’Adua.

In a statement on Monday, Busola Kukoyi, senior special adviser to the first lady on media, said Oluremi visited Turai at the Abuja residence of the late former president.

Oluremi was accompanied by Nana Shettima, wife of the vice-president and wives of the speaker of the house of representatives and the deputy senate president.

Tinubu praised the late matriarch of the Yar’Adua family, noting that she lived a fulfilled life, as reflected in the quality of her children.

She urged the former first lady to remain strong, adding that the responsibility of continuing the family’s legacy now rests on her shoulders.

The first lady also expressed her appreciation for the support and advice rendered by the former first lady to her and the vice president’s wife.

“A truly successful and fulfilled woman is not in the position she holds or wealth but how well she managed the family, trained the children, and left a legacy for future generations,” the statement reads.

“Dada achieved all of this. She saw her grandchildren, great-grandchildren. That is truly great.

“Despite our different political affiliations, we are one family. You have always been there to support me, and your advice has been invaluable.”

Nana Shettima, wife of the vice-president also prayed for the soul of the deceased and strength for the family and the nation.

In her response, Turai described her late mother-in-law as both a friend and sister, who offered encouragement during difficult times.

She thanked Oluremi and her entourage for their visit, describing it as a great encouragement.

Members of the Yar’Adua family, including some of the children of the late president, were present to receive the first lady.

Dada passed away on September 2 at the age of 102.

She was the mother of the late Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, and Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua.
