Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, on Tuesday confirmed reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had written to Systemspecs, owners of Remita electronic payment platform, instructing the firm to return the commissions it has received for managing the treasury single account (TSA).
Melaye made the disclosure to buttress his claim that Systemspecs was raking in N25bn daily for mopping up N2.5trn from federal government ministries, departments and agencies; and transmitting them to the CBN.
“I have a copy of letter from the CBN to Systemspecs directing them to remit back 1percent they have collected,” he said.
The lawmaker, who presented the letter to senate, also raised an issue of libel against a journalist over an article in a national newspaper.

He alleged that the journalist assassinated his character, praying the senate to investigate the matter.
Melaye stated that some people were trying to blackmail and intimidate the senate for standing by the people, adding that the upper legislative chamber would continue to fight corruption.
He praised President Muhammadu Buhari for implementing the TSA scheme, emphasising that the senate would always work with the president to fight corruption.

Meanwhile, Kabir Marafa, senator representing Zamfara central, walked out of the senate’s sitting after Senate President Bukola Saraki ruled him out of order over contention on the constitution of standing committees.
Marafa, who holds that constitution of the committees is illegal, called for a review of the committees, but Saraki told him issues regarding them had already been settled.

There is more to this than meets the eye and it needs to be further investigated. If Remita refunds the 1% commission, does that mean it is obliged to provide the services gratis to the federal government? If not, what is going to be the new arrangement?
We need to ensure that we don’t refund 1% publicly and then end up with an opaque settlement, managed by the Senate, in which we end up parting with 5% – Saraki and his cabal are never to be trusted.
You know, something is wrong with this guys in the senate. To think that we are saddled with them for the next four years is painfully confusing. Melaye is speaks like a thug, acts like a thug and obviously stands for nothing.
