Shehu Sani, lawmaker representing Kaduna central senatorial district, has distanced himself from the call to relieve Kemi Adeosun, minister of finance, of her duties.
Making a submission at plenary on Wednesday, the senator said taking such action will not get Nigeria out of its current economic state.
He advised the government to diversify the economy, cut interest rates, empower, small and medium scale enterprise.
Sani also urged the review of the revenue sharing formula, saying sharing all revenues contributed to Nigeria’s economic crisis.
“The situation whereby states come to Abuja every month to collect cheques and then go back to execute capital and recurrent expenditure has made impossible any initiative to boost our economy,” he said.
He called on state governments to look into ways to improve their internally generated revenue rather than relying on the federal allocation.
But Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to redeploy Adeosun and Udoma Udoma, her counterpart in budget and planning ministry, to other ministries where they could be “more productive”.
Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, insisted on the sack of the ministers, saying: “this bolekaja approach to the bojuboju economy will not work”.
Melaye, who had earlier asked Buhari to dismiss the duo, suggested that Senate President Bukola Saraki should personally submit resolutions of the senate to Buhari.
