Muktar Betara, a member of the house of representatives, has asked Christians to imbibe the spirit of selflessness and sacrifices toward all.

In a statement released by his media office, the lawmaker representing Biu/Kwaya Kusar/Shani/Bayo federal constituency of Borno state, said Easter is a “powerful reminder of God’s love and the promise of redemption for us all”.

He said Nigerians should reflect on the contribution of Christians to the country and  “emulate the lifestyle of Jesus Christ at all times”.

“Today, we hold close the Easter message that nothing — not even death — can match the power of faith, hope, and love,” Betara was quoted as saying.

“And we remember Jesus’ sacrifice and recommit ourselves to love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbours as ourselves, embracing his call to treat one another with compassion.

“Easter Sunday gives us a chance to reflect on the considerable contribution Christian communities make to our national life, offering support and a sense of belonging to so many across the country.

“Christianity and its values of tolerance, compassion, and charity are embedded in our history and national fabric.”

Betara, who is the chairperson of the house of representatives committee on appropriations, is among the hopefuls vying for the position of speaker.

The lawmaker was re-elected during the February 25 election and will be serving his fifth term when the 10th assembly is inaugurated in June.
