Sesi Whingan, a member of the house of representatives, has called for equal opportunities for People living With Disabilities (PWDs).

The lawmaker who represents Badagry federal constituency in the green chamber, said “disability should never be seen as inability”.

He made the remark during the inaugural meeting of the house committee on disability.

Whingan highlighted challenges affecting PWDs, particularly in the areas of education, employment, access to social amenities and infrastructure.

He stated the obstacles confronting PWDs, even within the National Assembly Complex, and urged governments to provide comprehensive and equal opportunities for them.

He also demanded proactive measures to deal with these issues in order to improve disability inclusion, and asked for more attention and consideration in terms of job opportunities, for PWDs.

Whingan recommended the introduction of a motion for equal treatment of PWDs in state and national assemblies.

He also recommended that there should be live broadcasts of national and state assemblies’ proceedings with sign language interpretation to ensure that PWDs participate in the democratic process.
