Apple’s much-anticipated artificial intelligence (AI)–driven upgrade to Siri is reportedly facing technical challenges, including software bugs, which could delay its release.

The tech giant first teased the revamped Siri in June 2024 and even showcased new features to customers.

However, according to a Bloomberg report on Friday, sources familiar with the matter said Apple engineers are struggling with software issues.

The report added that some features initially set for an April rollout may now be postponed until May or later.

“Apple is still racing to finish the software,” the sources said.

“Some features, originally planned for April, may have to be postponed until May or later.”

The development follows Apple’s $95 million settlement in January over a lawsuit alleging privacy violations related to Siri’s data handling.

Also, Apple has partnered with Alibaba to integrate AI features into the iPhone, despite calls from US lawmakers urging American companies to halt AI collaborations with Chinese firms.

Commenting on the partnership, Joe Tsai, chairman of Alibaba Group, expressed his excitement.

“They talked to a number of companies in China. In the end, they chose to do business with us,” he said.

Tsai said Alibaba feels extremely honoured to do business with Apple.
