Prince Charles of Wales reportedly accepted a payment of £1m from the family of Osama Bin Laden.

According to BBC, the money trail was revealed in a recent report by The Sunday Times.

The heir to the British throne was said to have accepted the money as a donation to the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund (PWCF) in 2013, two years after Bin Laden was killed.

The report added that the money was from Bin Laden’s half-brothers — Bakr and Shafiq.

Prince Charles was said to have taken the money despite objections from advisers at Clarence House and PWCF.

Reacting to the report, Clarence House said it had been assured by PWCF that “thorough due diligence” was conducted, and the decision to accept the money lay with the trustees.

“Any attempt to characterise it otherwise is false,” the House said.

On its part, PWCF said the 2013 donation was “carefully considered” by the five trustees at the time.

“Due diligence was conducted, with information sought from a wide range of sources, including government,” it added.

“The decision to accept the donation was taken wholly by the trustees. Any attempt to suggest otherwise is misleading and inaccurate.”

Bin Laden was one of the masterminds of the 9/11 attack in the US and was the leader of Al Qaeda until his death in 2011.

He had, however, been disowned by his family in 1994 and there is no indication that his half-brothers had links to his activities.
